Thomas Hobbs Florist by Maureen Sullivan
The classic beauty of one of Kerrisdale's iconic stores nabbed this year's highly anticipated Window Contest.
Judges bundled up in extra layers this past Wednesday night and strolled the Village for over three hours contemplating each and every store front. Thomas Hobbs Florist, owned and operated by Maureen Sullivan for over two decades, boasted two tall window displays, one with a bright red door decorated for the holidays and the other a sparkling silver and white confection of decorations and garden ornamentation.
The winner will receive a gift package from the Kerrisdale Business Association who sponsored the friendly competition plus a free ad in the popular Kerrisdale Insider Magazine!
Check out Kerrisdale Village in all its winter finery and take in the winning window as well. Special Christmas events are planned each Saturday before December 25 including free Horse & Carriage rides, always a favourite for all ages.
Snow Removal in the Kerrisdale Business District
As the winter season approaches it is timely to review snow removal rules for business district sidewalks. To be clear, business owners should know that they are responsible to clear the sidewalk in front of their building of snow and ice by 10 am as this is a City of Vancouver By-law. More importantly, by keeping on top of the shoveling and de-icing, you keep your business accessible for loyal neighbourhood patrons who rely on nearby services.

Kerrisdale Idol Best Ever
Thirty contestants turned out by 8 am September 7 to ensure a spot in this year's Kerrisdale Idol Event and they did not disappoint.
A wide range of ages and music styles made picking the finalists tough but our judges did an excellent job. In the end, 17 year old Jasmine Taviss was victorious and took home the $1000 prize money. The five runners-up were awarded gift certificated from popular KBA retailer Hills of Kerrisdale.
Judges seen below are left to right: Erin Shaw, Lilli Clark and Sam Trounce. The MC was entertainment maven Paul Anthony.

Antique Dealer Snares Kerrisdale Village Window Contest Third Year in a Row
The theme of this year's winning window was based on a family of marionettes around a Christmas hearth. Pierre St Denis, the store's owner, came across the marionettes in the village of Newbury, North Carolina while heading toward the airport. "One look at them in this diminutive antique store and I knew I would be building my holiday window around them", he said with a smile.
Kerrisdale Business Association's Past President Leo Franken, left, is seen here presenting Pierre with a gift box from Benton Brothers Fine Cheese.
Pierre will also receive a free ¼ page ad in the Kerrisdale Insider Magazine generously sponsored by that publication.
